Caring for the Laguna Forever

The Laguna has been here since long before any of us set foot in Sonoma County, and will be here long into the future.  At the Foundation, we know our charge is to steward, improve and interpret the Laguna not only for today, but for future generations.  Foundation supporters can ensure we are able to do so by making a planned gift to the Foundation.

Becoming a Legacy Donor of the Laguna Foundation means making a philanthropic investment to carry the work forward, long after you are gone.  It’s a gift to future generations of people, animals and natural systems.

Depending on your tax needs and situation, there are many financial planning tools you can use to include the Laguna Foundation in your estate plans.  You should discuss these with your financial planner, or, if you prefer, the Foundation has relationships with financial planners who can help you to decide on the right approach for you:

  • A simple bequest naming the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation in your will or trust.
  • A charitable gift annuity receiving a specified amount of income during your lifetime and afterwards having the remainder generate income for the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation.
  • A charitable remainder trust receiving a percentage of trust assets during your lifetime and having the corpus transferred to the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation after your death.
  • A remainder interest deeding real property to the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation but reserving a life estate that allows you the use and enjoyment of the property until your death
  • A life insurance policy naming the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation as beneficiary
  • A retirement plan such as an IRA naming the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation as primary or successor beneficiary

When your attorney draws up your will or living trust, language like these examples can be used:
“I give to the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation, a nonprofit organization with Tax Identification Number 94-3155180, with offices at 2150 W. College Ave, Santa Rosa, California, $_________ (or describe the real or personal property, including exact location) OR ________% of my estate"

- OR -

"I give all the residue of my estate, including real and personal property, to Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation, a nonprofit organization with Tax Identification Number 94-3155180, with offices at 2150 W. College Ave, Santa Rosa, California.”

If you decide to include the Laguna Foundation in your estate plan, we hope you will contact Wayne Mitchell, our Director of Campaigns and Individual Giving at (707) 527-9277, extension 111.  Your example can inspire others--especially if you give us permission to publish your name in our Annual Report--and we can talk with you about your gift to be sure we can honor your wishes.
