Get Involved

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our efforts to restore and revive the Laguna. The Laguna Foundation has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities: LagunaKeepers, Restoration, Education/Learning Laguna Docent Program, Citizen Scientists and Administrative Office Support. Fill out our sign-up form to become a volunteer. Also visit the Volunteer Schedule for upcoming dates.

LagunaKeepers: Volunteers assist in exotic plant removal, native plant and tree planting, trails construction and maintenance, restoration project monitoring, etc. Little or no experience or knowledge is needed and we'll give you whatever training is required.

LagunaKeeper workdays are usually on weekend mornings from 9am -noon and scheduled once a month from September through April. There are also sometimes opportunities to help with restoration efforts during the week . Joining the LagunaKeepers is a fun way to participate while enjoying the outdoors and sharing the company of like-minded people.

Education: Each spring we offer Docent Training. Trained docents provide Learning Laguna to elementary schools and lead educational walks in the Laguna for the public. The training consists of ten 4-hour classes plus 4 mornings with classrooms from March to May. The training covers all aspects of Laguna biology, hydrology, history, and restoration as well as training in field and classroom activities. Docents commit to staying with the program for a minimum of 2 years after training.

Citizen Scientists: We involve citizen scientists in several of our Laguna research projects, including a long-term study on bird abundance to help evaluate the success of our riparian restoration project along the Laguna and a yearly vernal pool endangered plant survey to inform conservation efforts and management decisions of listed species. If you have a background in the natural sciences or are an experienced naturalist, bird enthusiast, botanist, or other specialization and are interested in helping gathering important data, please contact us!

Administrative Office Support: Volunteers assist in the day-to-day running of the Laguna Foundation and its office: clerical tasks, data entry, organizing mailings, phone answering, filling orders, etc. No job or amount of time is too small - every little bit helps as we attempt to stretch our resources as far as possible.
