About the Laguna
Recreation in the Laguna
The Foundation recognizes that public appreciation of the Laguna can only occur if the public has a chance to experience its wonders. We work to ensure that public access activities are sensitively managed so that wildlife is not negatively impacted by them. Currently, we are participating in the trail planning for Laguna property easements held by the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. Please visit their website to download a draft Laguna Trails Plan.
In the mid-1990s, the Laguna Foundation played a pivotal role in the planning and creation of the Laguna de Santa Rosa Wetlands Preserve in Sebastopol. The entry to the Preserve is located at the south end of the Sebastopol Community Center Parking lot at 390 Morris Street in Sebastopol. There is a short walking trail that adjoins the Laguna channel, and loops around the City's former wastewater ponds. From late Spring to early Fall, a floating pedestrian bridge is in place to connect to a trail on the east bank of the Laguna channel.
To take a docent-led walk in the Preserve, visit the Laguna Learning Adventures page to view our complete selection of classes and walks designed to connect you to the Laguna.
